Visitor Information for South Lake Tahoe and Stateline Nevada
Where to stay
Most people choose to stay in South Lake Tahoe or Stateline Nevada.
The big casino hotels are in Stateline and the recreational resorts
are more likely to be found on the California side of the state line,
in South Lake Tahoe. Some people stay in the northern part of the
lake, which is more pristine, but also provides fewer services.
If looking for a resort setting, you should consider staying in a
timeshare. These can usually be rented in much the same way as a
hotel, and if you do a hotel search you may even find some of these.
If you are skiing, the Marriott resort at the base of the Gondola is a
great place to stay, as is the Embassy Vacation Resort, Lake Tahoe
near the lake on Ski Run Blvd.
Getting there and getting around
Highway 50 runs through South Lake Tahoe and Stateline Nevada. Most
people choose to fly into Sacramento or Reno, and drive to the lake.
It is a several hour drive, and it can be tricky in the winter. If
traveling in winter be sure to carry chains in your vehicle.
